Our Story
Every great idea starts with a conversation, right? For us, it all began in the vibrant, buzzing chairs of It’s a Beauty Affair. Meet Finn, a 24-year-old hair magician with a diploma from the Hair Academy in Amsterdam, and Dominique, a 35-year-old business powerhouse with an bachelor background in Real Estate and Property Management. Together, we were already the dream team, one of us hands-on in the salon, the other orchestrating everything behind the scenes. But little did we know, we were about to take things to the next level.
For almost four years, Finn had been creating magic with hair, while Dominique ran the show as the salon’s owner. Over time, one thing kept coming up: hair extensions.
Brand after brand, we tried them all. Some were okay, some… not so much. We were fed up with the inconsistent quality and inflated prices.
One day, we looked at each other and said, "Why not do it ourselves?" And just like that, the idea was born. We decided to create our own brand. Starting small, we’d sell in It’s a Beauty Affair, and if things went well, we’d expand to other salons. Sounds simple, right? (Spoiler: it wasn’t.)
How we started
Step one: testing. We ordered hair from everywhere, from the flashy brands to the obscure suppliers. Then, the real fun began. Friends, colleagues, and anyone willing became our test subjects. We asked them to wear the extensions and put them through hell. Think: washing, blow-drying, swimming, the works. If the hair could survive, it was worth keeping. And after months of testing, we had our answer: the top five suppliers all came from China.
But we weren’t about to stop there. If we were going to put our name on something, we had to see it with our own eyes. So, we packed our bags and flew to China. And wow, what an experience! We toured factories, studied processes, and learned the truth about the hair extension industry. It was eye-opening, to say the least. We came back with more than just knowledge; we came back with a brand-new business plan.
